Spending all day every day with Henry for the past week and a half has given me all kinds of time to drum up a silly number of nicknames for him–more, in fact, than the number of days he’s been here. Among them, babe, bud, buddy, peanut, little guy, dude, buster, mister, and bugaboo. My favorite, though, and the one that comes out the most, is simply: bug. I’m not sure why or where it comes from, when I started saying it or for what reason it suits him so well, but Henry is most definitely my bug. Maybe it’s because he’s most content when he’s wrapped up in a swaddle blanket–he looks a bit like a glow worm all tightly bundled, and the expression I’m left thinking every time I look at him that way is “snug as a bug in a rug.”
I’m not going to be able to call him that for his whole life without a little push back, I’m fairly certain. But for as long as I can get away with it, I think Henry will remain my little bug. His scrunched up faces and wiggly ways make him the cutest bug I’ve ever seen. Sure, I’m extraordinarily partial, but I just can’t help myself. When I spend all day looking at a face like this one, who could blame me? 😉
Being home all day together leaves us lots of time for photo shoots, and thanks to everything digital, we can take as many pictures as we want. I don’t know whether this is agreeable to Henry, but perhaps he’ll acclimate and enjoy the process by the time he’s able to tell us otherwise…
camera happy, and snug with my bug,
mm
