This weekend was busy and full, but in plenty of good ways. Every component felt short and sweet–a little dose of things we love, all packed into a day and a half:
-the trip home to Chicago in the sunshine, roads free and clear of ice and snow–and a chat with Dad on the way.
-a visit to IKEA, and the purchase of a new bed frame for our room, a bookshelf for the nursery, curtains, closet storage and a few kitchen items.
-dinner and an overnight at Mom K’s. Yummy Italian, relaxation and the chance to swoon over newborn baby pics of Jason (whose profile looks awfully similar to a certain baby’s ultrasound:)
-sleep! (also short and sweet. but then again, sleep is always sweet.)
-breakfast and a mini-shopping trip to Whole Foods. Really, I didn’t buy much–just did my usual drooling over everything organic and delicious and wonderful. Some of the best coffee (yep, decaf), whole grain toast and eggs over easy I’ve had in a while.
-a visit with Gramma and Mom, in typical fashion…lots of conversation, a yummy lunch at Wildberry Cafe (whole wheat crepes with fresh strawberries and blueberries, dusted in powered sugar; well-done applewood smoked bacon; freshly-squeezed oj. yes.), more conversation, a welcome back rub from mom and plans for a trip to MI next weekend.
-for Jason and Dad K, a day at the Chicago Auto Show, and the chance to ogle bright, shiny new cars of every variety. Top picks from this year? The new Fiat 500, the Volvo C30 R-line, the new Dodge Charger, the BMW 1 Series M and the Cadillac CTS-V wagon. My favorite? The Hot Wheels 2011 auto show edition Chevy Camaro Convertible (orange) that came home in the promo bag. Short and sweet indeed.
-a brief stop for dinner on the way home.
-our arrival at the little blue house just after 10pm.
And another “short and sweet” for this evening–one teeny tiny blog post from yours truly. After such a full weekend, I’m really looking forward to bedtime!
less than 11 short and sweet weeks to go…
