This past weekend, my mom and grandma (Henry’s grandma and great-grandma:) drove up from Chicago to babysit while Jason and I attended the wedding of two dear friends. Great Grandma Donna hadn’t met Henry yet, and I’d been waiting a long time–not just to introduce them, but for Grandma to become a great-grandma. Henry is the first great-grandchild on my mom’s side, and I’m excited that we now have four generations of family to love at once. It was pure joy to watch the two of them together for the first time!
After introductions and getting everything settled for Henry and his babysitters ;), Jason and I were off to enjoy the afternoon wedding and evening reception. It was no less sweet to watch as Katie and Kyle, two people I care about very much, made lifelong commitments to each other. They exchanged vows in a beautiful church, on a beautiful summer day, with a zeal for one another that is beautiful to witness. To know them individually is to love them, but to know them together is to be changed by their perfectly-matched passions for all things literary, culinary and Divine. Kate and I have known each other for 21 years and been friends for nearly 15. Kyle and I, for somewhere around 8. Participating in their wedding day was not only a delight, but a privilege. Kate looked as elegant and radiant as ever, and Kyle’s joy spread across his smiling face the entire day. I couldn’t be happier for them or for the start of their life together.
We were able to arrange a brief visit from Henry during cocktail hour–there were lots of important people for him to meet! It was so fun introducing him and sharing him around the room:
And before he left to hang out with the grandmas for the night, we snuck in one family photo with the little guy:
Henry was scrunchy and tired from all the social activity of the day. When we arrived home later that night, he was tucked away, cozy as ever and sound asleep. Being away from momma and daddy when you’ve got grandmas around is no sweat. See?
The following morning, we joined the happy (and newly wedded) couple and friends for breakfast (yum!) in town, then rested for the afternoon and admired photos of another friend’s one day old babe in the evening (Welcome, Cruz!! We can’t wait to meet you!) Two grandma’s in town, a wedding, a new baby and a happy Henry…thus, the contents of the weekend were decidedly sweet and lovely. We are so blessed to have so much to celebrate in this season!
one tired but happy momma,
mm
