I’ve mentioned a few times now just how much I savor and crave time in church when pregnant. It’s not that I don’t love it the rest of the time–I do. But there’s an added sweetness to be in the sanctuary when carrying a baby, and today was no exception. Today’s music was particularly timely to me. Come Thou Fount and How Great is Our God were both songs we sang in worship at our wedding, and a third, King of My Heart, made it hard not to just weep right there in the pew. I won’t chalk it up to hormones, but rather that the words are perfect and true. Right now, so close to baby, I feel them even more deeply. They express so much of where I am and how I perceive who God is. I’ve added this song to my birth playlist, and I know it will play in the exact right moments in labor. The melody has played through my heart and mind all day, and tonight, the lyrics feel like the exact right prayer for this place in time. I’m going to leave them here as worship, as a petition, and as an expression of what I hope for in the days to come:
Let the King of my heart
Be the mountain where I run
The fountain I drink from
Oh, He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the shadow where I hide
The ransom for my life
Oh, He is my song
‘Cause You are good, good, oh oh
You are good,good, oh oh
You are good,good, oh oh
You are good, good, oh oh
And let the King of my heart
Be the wind inside my sails
The anchor in the waves
Oh, He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the fire inside my veins
The echo of my days
Oh, He is my song
‘Cause You are good, good, oh oh
You are good, good, oh oh
You are good, good, oh oh
You are good good, oh oh
You’re never gonna let
You’re never gonna let me down
You’re never gonna let
You’re never gonna let me down
You’re never gonna let
You’re never gonna let me down
‘Cause You are good, good, oh oh
‘Cause You are good, good, oh oh
‘Cause You are good, good, oh oh
You are good, good, oh oh
He is good. So very good. Be the fountain I drink from, Lord, the anchor in the waves, the fire inside my veins, the echo of my days…
